Northern Charm: Culture, Nature & Craftsmanship

Vietnam has extended its 45-day visa-free policy to 12 more countries, replaced certain earlier exemptions, and introduced a special waiver program for high-profile visitors to strengthen tourism and socio-economic cooperation.

On August 15, 2025, Vietnam will take another significant step in opening its doors to the world. Citizens from Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland will be able to enter the country without a visa for up to 45 days.

This decision expands the current list of 13 nations already enjoying the same privilege – including France, Japan, and the United Kingdom – and reflects Vietnam’s commitment to creating easier access for international visitors while fostering stronger diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties. Twelve other countries, from Chile and Panama to nine of Vietnam’s Southeast Asian neighbors, will continue to enjoy visa-free entry for periods ranging between 14 and 90 days, maintaining close regional and intercontinental connections.
The new regulation also streamlines existing rules. Government Resolution No. 11, issued in January 2025, which previously covered Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland, will be repealed and replaced by Resolution No. 229. By unifying these exemptions under one framework, Vietnam simplifies entry procedures for travelers and strengthens consistency in its tourism policy.
Beyond the broader exemptions, the Government has introduced Decree No. 221, effective August 8, 2025, offering a limited-term visa waiver to individuals whose presence is considered valuable to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
